Merlin sleep suit
Thoughts on it? Is it safe? Does it actually help?

I believe it is not technically reviewed as part of safe sleep guidelines. However, we used it when my child could roll front to back but not back to front and was really waking themselves up with arm jerks. They couldn’t be swaddled due to the rolling, but we felt Okay since we put him to sleep on his back and he couldn’t roll that way. We felt it helped tremendously.

I just did a bunch of research on this and the American Association of pediatricians is against it especially for a newborn. There are two reasons that they site: the first is that newborns chest bone structure isn’t yet formed and so putting weight on it could restrict breathing. The second is that it could cause SIDS. That being said there doesn’t seem to be much evidence indicating that they are in fact, dangerous. It also seems like if a child is a bit older risk goes down. I felt like this was a helpful article. Personally, we never had to use them. https://www.npr.org/2023/07/27/1190263995/weighted-infant-sleepwear-safety
