Napping at school
Any tips for getting your kid to actually go to sleep during nap time at school? How long does it typically take before they get the hang of it?

We’ve never been able to get our toddler to nap at school or frankly any other place that isn’t his own room and bed. He’s just too stimulated by the different environment. But we do make sure that he respects the quiet time to unwind and relax which isn’t the same as a nap but helps him refresh and recharge.

Our older two didn't nap either unless the night before was really tough. I think taking it as a quieter time and opp to unwind could help with settling down. having books for them to look at helped with this too!

Still just three weeks in to extended care but we think our daughter has been able to nap most days at school, for periods of time at least! In terms of what we as parents think we can control… we make sure she has lunch and snacks that she’ll actually eat and are filling. We also bought a Peppa Pig bedroll that matches her blanket in her crib so it reminds her of the safety of her crib. We always make sure she has a stuffy with her in the morning and brings it home, too. Always a moving a target with a three year old but I think solid lunches and things that remind her of home have it made successful so far.

Our toddler just started full days instead of half and it took a few days for her to adjust. I was convinced she’d never nap and just use it as quiet time, but I think the peer pressure aspect helps some kids. Her teacher told me it takes most kids a few weeks. Our school doesn’t actually share if she naps or not on most days and if she does or not hasn’t impacted her night sleep, so I try to look at it as ā€œout of sight out of mindā€ lol.
